In Light of 4/20 - should the “legalize it” campaign be fullfilled?

Has the anti-smoking culture deflated the long never ending story of the “legalize it” campaign?

I don’t smoke anymore, haven’t for years. I understand both sides of the fence as a ex- smoker and I have also quit all tobacco this year as well so I see the ying and the yang.

What are some of your thoughts?
Is this really healthy?
Can we become a green and sober world, or is it better to partake and enjoy, but, not benefit from a clean lifestyle?

I wouldn’t call it healthy but it certainly isn’t as toxic as say alcohol.  Not to mention it gets a bad rap because it’s a drug.  It should not be the main focus of the DEA when there are plenty of more harmful drugs circulating schools.  It does have it’s healing effects and should definitely be legalized medically.

And for people saying all you do is sit on your couch, I say that if it were legal maybe people would go out more on it and not have to worry about getting caught or something.  There is plenty to do whilst stoned: movies, concerts, etc

Not sure I would want it to be legal just because I wouldn’t trust the US greed and who knows if they would put stuff in it like they do to cigarettes.  If it was like Amsterdam I’d be all for it though.

“Marijuana and other Entheogens break down mind control programming. This is why it is downtrodden and kept illegal by the forces that are dependent on mind controlled Stormtroopers for their elite status.” -Just saw that in a blog and I agree.  I feel like it is illegal because they don’t want what happened in the 60s happening again.

I feel it i should be legalized within the next 10 years or I am moving to Canada.

But seriously, after smoking marijuana only (I practice an ital diet so no cigarettes or alcohol) for multiple years, I can honestly say there have been no negative effects on my body or my mind.  It probably has opened my mind to new things as well.  I have experimenteed with psilocybin mushrooms and LSD and can say there is a definite line between marijuana and any ‘heavier’ drugs.  Like Willie Nelson once said, “I think people need to be educated to the fact that marijuana is not a drug. Marijuana is an herb and a flower. God put it here. If He put it here and He wants it to grow, what gives the government the right to say that God is wrong?”

Seriously people, don’t believe the lies.  Wake up and smell the bud.

this is exactly why i’ve opposed legalization for a long time. i was a long-time pot smoker, .....

i think there needs to be another choice on the poll...none of the answers really describe my position well.

Yeah sorry about that surfbum. I realized AFTER I created the poll that it was not clear and I should have put an “indifferent"choice there.
My apologies.

Thanks for your opinion!

In Cali, you just need a Dr.s note and your set.  The goverment man has nothing over me:).  And it can be healthy if you vape.

It can be healthy even if you don’t.
But yeah, Cali and the west coast are on their way towards legalization, whereas us over in the east are still on lockdown.

I wouldn’t be too sure.  The govt still wastes it’s time with the clinics.  Last year if you remember, they busted like 4 clinics in CA.

Your right.  The man has shut down several facilities in Santa Barbara.  However, these folks were ‘flaunting’ their businesses in small neighborhoods.  My piece of paper still gives me peace of mind. And I probally shouldn’t have said it’s healthy to vape.  Eating a bowl of Wheaties is healthy.  I hope you all have a great weekend!

I think a reasonable balance of decriminalization laws are the best thing.
Hell, Netherlands (i.e. Amsterdam, i.e. pot mecca of the world), weed is still illegal..they just haven’t enforced the laws in decades!
I am for it’s medical uses in all countries, and for reasonable amounts for personal consumption.
For instance Australia, differing between states/territories, has implemented decriminalization laws that can allow you to own up to 2 outdoor plants (or 25 grams I think) for private use which is for ACT, West & South Australia I believe. I know Queensland is strict and treats it as any other drug basically.
Although Canada’s reform parties have helped in the decriminalization process, it is still very much illegal here. In Alberta, it’s basically a slap on the wrist for anything less than 14 grams (because of the paperwork hassle) and then anymore would be issued a fine. B.C. and Toronto do have acouple ‘smoke-friendly’ cafe’s. A few rules, no buying/selling, and have to be 19 or older. And the only reason those have been allowed to stay in operation is because it’s not necissarily the businesses breaking the law, but the customers going in and out, so law enforcement would have to bust each and every person who smokes there for possession after they come out of the place (and who’s to say the smokers would still even have any pot on them afterwards anyways), which for them, would be waaay too much paperwork and bullshit wastes of time for the courts to handle, so they just look the other way.

I just gotta say that I hope everyone had a great 420 (of those who celebrate the day). My friend and I carried on our 5th annual 420 tradition of baking up a nice batch of brownies!

I’ve never smoked but I know people who have/do. From what I can tell they seem to think it’s a lot greater for them then it actually is. But I do think the current laws against pot are way too harsh. One question, hard drugs come through organized crime and follow a generally sketchy path to your pocket. If you don’t know the person who grows your pot, doesn’t it have the same problems?

You can call it organized crime. It must be pretty organized to be jumping between B.C.’s 2nd & 3rd biggest business for GDP, earning roughly an annual $7.8 billion. It still involves cultivation, smuggling and selling of an illegal drug. I think something like 75% of pot in the USA comes from Canada, particularly from B.C.

14 or 25 grams? Wow, that’s a hell of a lot of weed.

An you’re right. It’s technically illegal for coffeeshops to sell weed, but at the same time they pay taxes and have to abide to loads and loads of laws/rules. So you can semi-legally sell weed, but (and this is the fun part) you can’t transport it OR grow it?

Soooo..how do the coffeeshops get the weed?

Simple, it just comes down from heaven..much like rain or the biblical manna.

As for the weed itself, i think it’s a far stretch to call it healthy. I occasionally smoke and do believe that because it’s legal it prevents kids from smoking ‘just cause it’s illegal’. Other than that: everything in moderation. I do think people idolize it a bit, with the entire subculture of stoners, music, bob marley etc.etc.
