Sustainable Living Support Group

I have found that I become the most conscious and proactive about living sustainably when I am surrounded by like minded people. Fortunately, we have a community full of great people with like minds. My idea is to form a motivational support group, where we all come up with a sustainable living goal for the week, post it up, then go out and live it and share our experiences. We can all learn from each others ideas and feel an extra sense of motivation/accountability to live sustainably. Share your seeds of knowledge and lets put our thoughts into action.

So here’s my first goal for the week 6/2/08-6/8/08:

I am going to become more conscious of the foods I eat by eating lower on the food chain and eliminating fast food from the diet. I rarely eat it, but I want to completely rid it from the diet and not make exceptions when friends want to eat there.

I’m with you on that one.  Not only is fast food so bad for your health, but think of all the garbage that results from it.

Well, the no fast foods has been easy, eating lower on the food chain has been a little harder. I am not bringing my foods into my conscious thoughts enough. This will change as I cook more meals for myself until then....

Goal #2:
I have been getting ready for my trip to hawaii and making several small purchases. My new goal is not to take any plastic bags from the stores. It’s really easy when you buy small things...Just refuse the bag and carry them out. Plastics not only take up space in landfills, they pollute the air when produced, and petroleum is used to produce them...Small steps lead to good habits which lead to big steps… On the North Shore of hawaii there is a campain going against the use of plastics and its efforts are really coming to fruition.
