JUNK: sailing to Hawaii on 15,000 plastic bottles

Hello all,
Anna here from the Algalita Marine Research Foundation. We’ve been researching the buildup of plastic debris in the North Pacific for the last 10 years - suffice it to say, the issue has skyrocketed:

To bring more media attention to the issue, we decided to do something unusual. So we built a raft out of 15,000 plastic bottles. a Cessna 310 airplane fuselage, and other junk - currently sailing to Hawaii.

We’ve witnessed firsthand that our oceans are turning into a plastic soup, wreaking havoc on marine ecosystems and human health....we’ve got to end the age of disposables plastics, and begin designing/acting for the future. Follow our journey, and climb on board!

Best,
Anna Cummins
