10 reasons why I’M NOT OK

Total Posts: 8

Well, I love Jack’s music and he seems like a nice guy BUT I’m NOT OK with a few things that I’ve seen happening here lately:

1)I’m NOT OK with driving 2 hours to see a show at the Gorge(middle of nowhere).
2)I’m NOT OK paying $40 bucks + $$$ ticketmaster’s(evil empire) gauging fees for a ticket.
3)I’m NOT OK watching a show with binoculars because there are 25,000 people in front of me.
4)I’m NOT OK with this militant environmentalism being pushed down my throat whenever I hear Jack’s name. It gives a bad name to a good cause.  PS: I’ve been recycling since I could barely walk but I still don’t need to be preached about it constantly.  I don’t drive much and have a huge vegetable garden and don’t use plastic bags. Basically I live the green life Jack preaches.
5)I’m NOT OK with this board banning people for exercicing their “free speach” rights.
6)I’m NOT OK with the last show at he Gorge which Jack barely spoke the whole night and acted like he didn’t care to be there.  Maybe bored and tired. Uneventful and it felt like he was just ‘punching in’ for work. No real excitement…
7)I’m NOT OK to hear songs that sound the same.  Last 2 albums are a great example!
8)I’m NOT OK with people volunteering for the “green village” just to meet Jack and AFTERWARDS going back to their old ways, throwing trash in the streets and posting their Jack picture on their Myspace while drinking their plastic bottled water.
9)I’m NOT OK with this site not having an “artist blog area” where Jack could update his fans
10)I’m NOT OK with Paula Fuga/Rogue Wave/Dub Collective being the opening acts just because they’re friends of Jack when a lot of other bands like: OAR, The Beautiful Girls, Xavier Rudd, Matt Costa, Bedouin Soundclash, Slightly Stoopid, G Love, Nine Mile, Brett Dennen are available.

I think you are over exaggerating. I had a great time and sounds like you don’t even listen to jack when you say the last two albums sound the same

Oh how I wish I was 13 again….! You’re clueless!

Reason number 11: the clueless new fans here, since you changed the forum

i do agree w/ you about his last album… and ticket master’s bull plop, but dont be mad at Jack for that… Jack is big enough now, he should open his own ticket office thingy… im sure ticket bastard isnt very good for the environment… thatd be a huge, well deserved middle finger in a big corporations face…

that being said, OAR, Xavier Rudd, Matt Costa, Slightly Stoopid, Nine Mile, Brett Dennen?! are you freaking kidding me?! Paula Fuga and CCDC are SO much better than any of those people… Slightly Stoopid used to be good… 4 albums ago (although, the Slightly Not Stoned Enough to Eat Breakfast Yet Stoopid EP was REALLY good, ill give em that… their “music” just would not go well w/ Jack’s, and the crowd they draw these days… i dont go to their shows anymore because of it… that wouldve ruined Jack’s show for me… a bunch of drunk sluts and their chasers running around spilling their drinks on me and getting mad at me for it? no thanks… and have you meant them? snobby sell outs. and i love The Beautiful Girls but their last album was just plain shite. i wasnt too impressed w/ Bedouin Soundclash’s latest album either…

and i dunno what show you were at, but i dont recall anyone being militant about the environment… just because they have booths doesnt mean theyre being pushy…

I think the point is you do not have to be okay with it. Nobody is forcing you to come here. I am sure you are a very nice person, but come on, things change. You either go with the flow or you stand still.

Don’t take this so personally. It is a good place. There is a lot of positive stuff going on here. You can find bad in everything if you look hard enough, but this place, come on. Is it really the worst of all evil, b/c that is what you make it out to be.

As for the music and the choice of openers…it is opinion. I love the new album, I love all of the albums. It doesn’t mean I’m right.

Take a step back, breath and then come back. I know you are smart, I get the feeling you are a good person, but that you are hurt by what has happened. Don’t attack people who don’t deserve it.

Half the people you listed have already toured with Jack or are headlining their own tours right now.  I think it’s great that Jack brings his friends along with him.. who else should he bring?  Someone who is more mainstream?? I think he should bring along is extremely talented friends who support the same environmental views.  Jack has mentioned in an interview that he wouldn’t have done this tour if it he didn’t believe that he and the organizations going along with him could change the way people think about their impact on the environment.

What did you want Jack to talk about during the show?  If he would have talked about the non-profits there, would you have been even more angry?  What did you really expect from him?  That’s Jack, he’s not putting on an act.. just being himself playing music with friends.

Last thing, and most important in my mind.  This website is geared towards the All At Once organization.  So, naturally, they want to keep things clean and relevant.

And to complain about where you were sitting?  Whose fault is that really?

I’m NOT OK with immature people thinking that we care about their petty complaints.

Sounds like you just wanted to come across as superior and bold…well, you didn’t.

Huh, well I was at the Gorge show too, only I had a wonderful time.  Let me correct some things for you.

1)  I drove 3.5 hours to get there.  The Gorge is beautiful.  The Gorge is the perfect place for Jack to play.  It felt right, to be outside, laying in the grass, listening to Jack play live the songs that I’ve fallen in love with over the years.

2)  Seriously, $40 to see a live show is unreasonable to you?  You’ve got to be kidding.  My ticket was $55 after all Ticketmaster’s fees, which I agree are unfair, but the $39 for Jack’s portion seems low comparably.  Even with Ticketmaster’s fees, it was WELL worth it to me to see Jack.

3)  Who’s fault is it that you were in the back?  I wasn’t willing to stand on the cement pad in the pit, but we got there early and laid out our blanket in the grass behind the chain link fence, up high enough so the fence wasn’t in our way.  Not to mention that the ampitheater set up gave you a better view than if Jack had been in some cramped, hot stadium.

4)  I didn’t see anyone preachy there.  Everyone was more than willing to share information if asked, I spent a bit of time in the Village Green and wasn’t bothered by anyone except people who wanted to answer the questions that I asked.  Besides, being green and eco-friendly is kind of Jack’s “thing”, plus it’s plastered all over this site - and it’s his tour.  He’s getting the word out in the ways that he can.  No one pushed you into the Village Green, I’m quite sure.

5)  I’m unaware of any board banning, I’m not really that active here unless I have questions, so I can’t comment on that.

6)  I did feel like Jack was a little touched out at the Gorge.  I imagine he’s tired and homesick.  Touring can’t be a fun way to live.  He came and he played, which is really all you can expect.  He pours his heart and soul into this music, and then sings it every night all summer.  We were one of his last stops.  My guess is he was just drained.  He was still amazing.

7)  Don’t listen then.  He is who he is, either you like it or you don’t.  I don’t think the songs sound the same at all.  I find some kind of connection in about 85% of them.  I wasn’t a big fan of the new album at first, because I prefer him stripped down, just him and his guitar, but after I listened to it a few time I got hooked.

8)  I was really disappointed when I left the Gorge to see how much trash was left on the ground.  I was actually embarrased, even though I didn’t leave any garbage at all.  As for the people volunteering, I was kind of disappointed with that too.  One volunteer told me he saw several people get their shirt, spend their time with Jack, and then sneak off and remove their volunteer shirt so they could disappear in the crowd and not have to volunteer anymore.  That’s terrible.

9)  What do you want to be updated about?  Does Jack blog anywhere?  I assume his myspace and facebook are taken care of by employees, and I’m guessing most “celebrities” blogs are handled by their people as well.  I’m sure if Jack has something to say he knows how to get the word out.  Maybe he doesn’t want to blog here.  Why should he?

10)  I wasn’t a big fan of the opening acts either, but again, Jack’s show, he gets to choose.  I didn’t come to see them anyway.

And I’m not a 13 year old clueless fan, in case that is going to be your response to this.  I just think you sound like an ungrateful whiner.

It meant the world to me that I got to go to this Jack show.  I can’t wait to do it again, although I don’t imagine he’ll tour for at least 2 years.  I think it’s probably best if you skip the next one, since you don’t seem to be able to appreciate it for what it was.

1)I’m NOT OK with driving 2 hours to see a show at the Gorge(middle of nowhere).

SO why did you?

It’smePraia - Sep 04, 2008 02:26pm

3)I’m NOT OK watching a show with binoculars because there are 25,000 people in front of me.

It’s called get there early.

4)I’m NOT OK with this militant environmentalism being pushed down my throat whenever I hear Jack’s name.

I didn’t see or hear one bit of preaching going on at that show.

7)I’m NOT OK to hear songs that sound the same.  Last 2 albums are a great example!

It WAS the ‘Sleep Through the Static’ tour. Don’t know why you’re so surprised.

8)I’m NOT OK with people volunteering for the “green village” just to meet Jack and AFTERWARDS going back to their old ways, throwing trash in the streets and posting their Jack picture on their Myspace while drinking their plastic bottled water.

This hurt the most.
I was a volunteer at the Gorge, I applied the day it became available to apply, way before people started posting their pics around here.
I had no clue I was going to meet Jack. It was a total surprise. If anything, it made me want to do a better job of what I had to do.
I volunteered because I wanted to support his cause and mine. I’ve been in environmental education in schools for 5 years.
Thanks for judging though.

I saw Brett Dennen this year and he said about 10 words the entire show and played looking at his drummer a lot of the time(He is still one of my current favorite artists though). I also love Paula Fuga/Rogue Wave/Dub Collective and listen to them regularly. I would also like to see The Beautiful Girls, Xavier Rudd, & Matt Costa. Don’t care for the rest. As for Jack, he looks a little out of his element in the videos I’ve seen of him in concert. That is who Jack is and if you didn’t know that before you saw Jack, you weren’t paying attention. I myself won’t see him until the fare weather fans stop going to his shows which will be within the next 5 years. I will gladly wait. Thanks for listening!

The Gorge is great but it’s kinda an expensive pain in the ass no matter who you see.  You just have to know that going in. But I was at that show and thought the music was great.

Praia is allowed to vent. He’s been on the forum long before most of you even knew Jack Johnson existed.

Total Posts: 13

No one said Praia isn’t allowed to vent.  Am I not allowed to disagree?

And what difference does it make how long he’s been on the forum?  And how do you know how long I’ve been a Jack fan?  And does that make a person somehow more authentic?
