The song ‘Sleep through the Static’

I’ve been thinking about the song and it’s meaning quite a bit. I love Jack’s music, and I like the song. But, something just never has sat quite right with the meaning of this song. I am probably in the wrong crowd to voice my view. But, isn’t that what FREE SPEECH is about.

For me, it seems like we’ve forgotten who the REAL enemy is. I really don’t think that the American People just have a bully sort of mind set. I don’t think that the banner waving people that drive a Dodge are the one’s to be frightened of. All sorts of peaceful efforts have been attempted before the war started and throughout this ordeal. But, I don’t think the far out Muslim people that religiously believe we, Americans are all evil can be reasoned with. (Note: I don’t believe all Muslims believe this way.) We should not forget that our Country (innocent people) were attacked and murdered on our own soil. It’s a shame we don’t live in a utopian society where we are not forced to protect ourselves.

I’m sure not everyone will agree with me. I just wanted to voice my opinion.

Hello, I respect your opinion. You seem like a realist, but I think a lot of Americans are guilty generalizing all Muslims. They come from different countries with very different cultures. I think our lack of willingness to understand people different then us is a big part of the problem. Unfortunately there is a good chunk of America that does have a bully mindset when it comes to foreign affairs. I think it comes from a lack of information or mis-information. I don’t understand how 9/11 can be used as a justification for Iraq. Since we were murdered on our own soil, we respond by murdering other innocent people on their own soil? What peaceful attempts were made before the war?

Who is the real enemy?  I’ve been seriously pondering that since the “attack” on 9/11…seems to be a little bit of him, a little bit of her, a little bit of me, a little bit of you; everyone…the whole cookie jar theme…that seems to come from one side of human nature…and the only true enemy seems to be a quality.  And, the songs as a collective (the album, and all his songs & covers too) reflect that well.  Who knows?
