“A New Earth”

Any other Jack Johnson fans reading “A New Earth” right now?  I love this book and I am grateful that it will no doubt have an impact environmentally due to people having a heightened awareness about life in general.  Many people reading this book I’m sure are environmentally minded people and in reading will take it to the next level.

sounds good. author?

Eckhart Tolle is the author, he also wrote “The Power of Now”

“A New Earth” is Oprah’s latest book club selection.  She has an online class on Monday nights on her website with the author.  Chapter 1 was discussed this past Monday… So Chapter 2 will start on March 10th.  I am so impressed that she has embraced this to the extent that she has.  I would love to get a discussion group going here with anyone who reads it.  The message boards on Oprah.com are on overload with this book.

Read it, love it!  I was thrilled that this book was written.  It captured alot of what I’ve been experiencing over the last year in particular and the last 7 years as a whole.  I was even more thrilled that it made it to the Oprah book club...Now that’s inspiring...helpful!  Just like this JJ “all at once community” is too.  Though, as the author also stated, just reading a book talking about awareness will not necessarily awaken someone...but who knows for sure how it works...a word, a thought, is a seed and here is a great place to post that suggestion.  Because, if not already “awakened” before Jack’s thoughts/music, he has spread his seeds to all his fans who listen(ed).  Ultimately, it was for me another huge inspirating reflection that “change” is in the “air” and gave me the last push I needed to step away from the ego.  At least I hope...we’ll see...Thanks for the post!  Nice connection!

^^Yeah, Jack’s music definitely relates to this type of awakening doesn’t it....
I love the lyric in Monsoon…

“And if the moon
Can turn the tides it can pull the tears
And take them from out eyes
Make them into monsoons....”

That really is beautiful.

And Hi Ben, definitely go get the book if this type of reading interests you.  I’m assuming you are 15 because of your last post.  Well, there was a 13 year old girl who called in for the webcast last Monday and she was reading the book.

I’m reading that book right now and it gives me chills!  Change is in the air.

Hiya Aquarian73, I agree Jack’s music definitely relates to this type of awakening. His music reminds me to live in the moment, to be patient with the process. I’m also participating in Oprah’s book club and reading “A new Earth”. This book has really helped me to understand the ego.
For me, realizing that the ego and awareness can not co-exist and ego can’t live in the ‘now’ has helped me to make the connection of meditation and stillness of the mind (ego)
Also, you mentioned age as a factor to ‘awaken’. I would like to say that like everything to do with learning, that this is a process. It doesn’t matter how much you take in or how much you are able to use to make physical changes in your life, it’s all helpful and we all must just start with one or two things and then try one more thing. A process of growth and awakening.

Hey Aquarian73 and any others...How’s Oprah’s book reading/discussion going?

Not trying to be a wet towel. I read the book and I have to say that it is philosophically incoherent and it takes a very uneducated view Christian Theism and frankly everything else. It is a feel good type of deal but he makes so many statements that are wildly irresponsible and purely speculative. For instance at one point on page 17 he is contrasting spirituality and religion. He argues that religion has faulted because they “equate truth with thought” and they claim to be “in sole possession of truth.” He also says that there are limitations to thought… Yet he claims that his belief system is true and that we should do what he says. This violates the very objection. Does he not have a human brain typing human words communicating with human thought? Why are his words and thoughts not subject to the same criticism by which he subjects everything else? You can’t write a book claiming that men and women can’t know and claim to be knowing at the same time. When you look at a book like this that claims superior experience or knowledge or whatever he claims you have to look at evidence of his claims. They are really bad. He has written four books and been endorsed by Oprah and that is it. He is described as a ‘contemporary spiritual teacher’ who has no other qualifications to be telling you about your spiritual future. You should really reread this book and see how many times he makes pure speculative statements with so few outside sources it looks like a jr.high paper. In terms of being an accurate depiction this book is lacking.

Well you see that’ is exactly it, Spirituality is uneducated in the traditional sense yet it expands beyond the limitations of teachings, it bypasses all understanding, it is God Consciousness, Wisdom that bypasses the brain and yet is All knowing, like a flash of insight, or simple truth felt in our Heart.
I know, I know, a bit of a contradiction, he calls himself a Spiritual Teacher… and his books are his teachings but what he is teaching is not really all that new. He seems to merely explain his Spiritual experience of Enlightenment in a new way. For me, it is in a way that I completely resonate with and always have. I will admit it takes an open mind and a willingness to step out of your comfort zone to realize that You are more than your opinions. For me, this alone is like passing through a portal and finding a deeper and more meaningful purpose to life.
