if we don’t stop producing so much carbon emissions our plants will die our animals too and then the human race will fall all because we are using to much electrical things that will get trapped in the atmosphere and trap in the heat and will obviously make the earth hotter. now if your a true jack johnson fan then you have to be with him and try and get the message out global warming is a problem but we can get through this together as a peaceful community involving every human being from every single country on this planet and we can save the earth but we cant do this alone so join us and help save the earth. by Adrian(13)(aus)

I strongly believe climate change can be prevented if we are willing to prevent it. If people done even the smallest of things to help, like turning off light switches when they are not needed, or riding a bike to the shops instead of begging your mum or dad to drive you there.

Now this is inspiring! Hearing “young” people that “see it” and speak it, and with-in each truthful moment you plant a new seed (even in an “old” garden) that will inspire life...again. We’re all in this together! It’s all just about seeing the truth...that’s what brings about breath; life; change, in your self...your actions...and that’s what grows...True change within (truth within) spreads your seed of truth in simply profound ways...just take less. I love it!

I think the key to reducing carbon emissions is to get the entire world on board, otherwise we’re simply displacing pollution. While North America is busy trying to cut emissions, developing nations like China and India are pumping out new coal fired plants on a weekly basis. Developed nations need to begin putting pressure on the developing nations to adhere to more stringent environmental controls, otherwise our efforts will only go to offset the increased pollution created by the other less developed nations.

I totally agree. I believe that if we as capable human beings just sit around and let the world dwindle...then it’s our own fault for letting everything go down hill.
I think that people who complain about global warming and other natural happenings need to STOP complaining and START making a difference!!

I totally agree with being responsible and doing everything we can to reduce emissions and our negative impacts on the environment and our climate. FYI, I took a bumch of climatology and meteorology classes in college, even though that was a long time ago!!
Just be careful about something—remember that the developed world, the US especially—uses far more of the world’s resources and produces far more of the world’s pollution than our fair share. The developing world is just following our lead. I am afraid developed nations would not be taken seriously and viewed as hypocrites if they try to tell others “Do as I say, not as I do.”
We first have to clean up our own act before we can start pointing fingers at others. More importantly, there are those in the developed world who will try to distract us by focusing attention on others, so as to avoid dealing with our own shortcomings. Human nature, I think.
I am encouraged by the good efforts out there, but we have to do A LOT more; we are just getting started. But I do think individuals and organizations can have a big impact in all parts of the world, and should strive to do so.
Keep up the discussion, it’s great!!

First of all, can everyone agree that the “Poll Question” is absolutely rediculous? How about this one...How much of your annual income would you allow to be taken by the US Government to be used to “battle the ongoing effects of Climate Change?”
I am a degree holding scientist that does not believe it is at all possible for humans to effect the climate! Does this mean I can’t go to a Jack show? Does this mean I am not welcome to listen to Jack’s music? I will tell you that I have not bought the new album, because I am afraid it is not intended for “people like me.”
Would anyone let me in their carpool, I’ll bring the Carbon Credits!

The poll question is quite vague. Your poll question is a valid one… There is a lot of talk about contributing efforts to reduce the impact on the environment, and yet, people will not sacrifice their our wealth to contribute towards the cause. I can imagine that there would be quite a stir-up if the government implemented a 5% flat tax on all merchandise and service sales to battle climate change. Guaranteed that government wouldn’t be in power very long. That being said, there is nothing wrong with engaging the government encourage emissions controls and environmentally sound policies on corporations and consumers. The debate is simple… Everybody wants the government to implement policy to reduce emissions, but at what price. Over time the allocation of spending towards the environment will increase, however, there will always be opposition… Let’s face it, people are greedy, and they enjoy the lifestyles they’re currently living. Why would somebody want to volountarily change the way they are living for the environment?! Time will only tell if this movement will be successful.
The fact that you don’t support a movement towards reducing emissions and the implementation of more environmentally friendly policies doesn’t mean you can’t listen to Jack Johnson or go to his concerts. There’s always an opposition to any movement… I mean we had the same problem when we tried to push towards the equality of women’s rights. All that means is that the movement will need to work extra hard to convince you that climate change is imminent if we don’t try to improve the way we live.
Jack’s music is intended for everyone, and everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I don’t think you can justify downloading the album by saying ‘it wasn’t meant for people like me.’

Really...women’s rights? That is the comparison you come up with? My non-belief in imminent climate change is like believing women should not have gotten equal rights. Really? I think my opinion is based entirely on fact, just as you believe your opinion is.

Hahaha… The comparison is based on the fact that there is opposition to any movement. If everyone agreed that there was a problem we wouldn’t be debating this. It is only through debate that we can educate one another on the facts and come to an amicable solution. The fact remains that you believe that pollution doesn’t impact the environment. Please engage in convincing me that this is indeed the case.

The fact is I do not believe human influence has anything to do with the temperature changes in the environment. “Pollution” is happening every single day, and would continue without humans. Over 90% of the Earth’s Greenhouse Effect is due to water vapor and clouds. The Earth’s atmosphere is constantly limiting greenhouse effect using precipitation systems, which remove water vapor and adjust cloud amount to keep the effect constant with available sunlight. Our understanding of this process is immature, and it is not included in models.
IF EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE CLIMATE SYSTEM REMAINED THE SAME, a doubling of the atmospheric CO2 concentration would cause little more than a 1 degree F of surface warming. Mankinds addition of CO2 to the atmosphere is ONE molecule of CO2 for every 100,000 molecules of air every 5 years.

Now this is the type of information I’m talking about. I think there needs to be more publications and interactive discussions on both sides to ensure that everyone involved can choose a side based on fact. I absolutely agree that the information being published is biased towards linking human behavior as a contributing factor to climate change. The more information that is made available to disprove such a claim, the more engaging the debate. Are you able to provide any links to sites that have more information to help educate everyone about the position of the opposition?
