I was just wondering if, or how many teachers, elmentary, middle, high school, or college are in the community?  I teach the 3rd grade in Ventura, Ca.  Things are good for the time being, but good ol’ Arnold has made so many dang cuts to the education budget, things aren’t looking good for the future.

No permanent lay offs in Ventura Unified, but all of the temporary folks got a pink note.  Now were worried about class size reduction turning around.  20 kids per 1 teacher is amazing.  You can teach the kids so much.  If I have to go up to 30 plus, it will cut down on how effective I am.  A lot of people are already talking about grade level transfers, school trasnsfers even for people who have been teaching in the same district, school, grade, and classroom.  I’ve been teaching for 13 years now.  I hope I have job security.  I know if I get bumped, I will be the 7:45 to 3:00 teacher.  No extras if I’m being punished by Arnold.

I am a high school teacher; however, not in Ventura.  I am shocked to hear about layoffs in Ca.  I did not realize the education budget was being cut.  I teach in Louisiana and they have actually been increasing the education budget.  Best of luck to you!

I remember your name.  Silly.  Levi is huge! Good looking kid.  I remember when I sent you the Jack stickers and Levi wanted them on the microwave.  I thought it was so cool that you let him express himself like that.  Is the sticker still there?  It has been a while since I did a B&P;w/you.  Do people still B&P;?  Things are good here.  Life has probally changed with you as they have for me.  My wife of 15 years told me she was divorcing me out of the blue two years ago.  Big shocker.  I now have 5o% custody of my two sons who are super!  Cole is 10.  Blythe is 7.  They are my best pals.  Well I lost a house, a butt load of money, and I’m much happier now!  Hind sight is 20/20 I guess.  School is pretty much the same.  I have a great group of kids!  This makes life enjoyable.  Your daughter is 9 months?  I think two kids is the perfect size for a family.  Do you ever hear from soap mama or the other oldies.  I still talk to her weekly.  I dropped you name on the ‘old jack fourm peeps’ thread. I miss the old days.  Let me know what’s up.

funny......we just got a new microwave & we preordered the new jj cd that came with stickers.....so we did in fact put a new sticker on the new microwave! it just wasn’t the same without the sticker! funny you remember that stuff. sorry to hear about the divorce, i guess it’s better that way.....sounds like anyway.

Where and what grade?  Cali is in BIG trouble!  The terminator terminated a lot of cash flow for education.  All temp teachers got pink slips.  We might loos class size reduction which would put me with 30 plus kids instead of 20.  No hiring of any sorts.  The district is hoping there are a lot of people retiring.  But the people who are retiring aren’t letting the district know, so a lot of people are up in the air.  Summer school was cut except for special ed.  And we’re suppose to keep our state testing scores above the previous years scores.  And to top it all off, the pay sucks!  Somebody asked me what I make a year a while back.  I told my principal about this.  His response when someone asked him how much he made when he was teaching was...I make a difference in kids lifes.  That’s about it.

Is the pay that bad?  I think the best way to save $ in education would be to cut state testing for a couple of years.  In Cali, our test don’t even come from the state.  They come from an independent contractor who prints them and then grades them.  Then they send all of the stats to the state.  This must cost the state butt loads of cash.  Does your school still music and art?  Those have been cut here as well.

I’m on my way to be a teacher and over here (the Netherlands) they’re so desperate for teachers that they’ll put anyone in front of a class. If you have some experience with the subject (business, university, jobs) that’s enough! They’ll even pay all your school expenses so you can get your degree whilst teaching.

i’m a student, and its sad to see my art teacher not having enough money in her budget to get new art supplies, and then almost all of the stuff is ruined because of carelss people who ruin them.
and last year, our old principal tried to get rid of the music department. marching band, dance, choir...everything.
pretty lame, huh?

I study languages, i’ll be an English-Portuguese teacher ;)

i teach hockey if that counts? :P
