I think both work together quite fabulously. The lyrics allow us to take a positive, meaningful outlook on life, while the music itself in a way represents the environment in which JJ would have the audience feel apart. The rhythem of the guitar gives off the feeling of the crashing waves he loves to face and give the audience a joyful, calm feeling as they listen.
What do you believe gave Jack Johnson his deep understanding and appreciation for life? (Keep in mind his accident while surfing).
