Who or what turned you onto Jack ?

This question has been asked before, but there are so many new people on the form, I thought I would give it another shot.  For me, it was ‘Blue Torch T.V.’ with Leann Tweed(hottie!) and Weeman. Foxsportwest.  They would play clips from ‘Thicker Than Water’ and play Jack’s music in the backround.  He did a couple of interviews with them as well.  Those might be on u-tube?  Soon after seeing him on ‘Blue Torch” he played in Ventura at the Surf Rodeo.  That’s all it took.

As weird as it sounds, my dad actually introduced me to Jack.  He gave me a burned copy of In Between Dreams, I listened to a couple of songs from it when I first got it but didn’t really touch it for a few months until I took it with me on vacation to stay at a beach house for a week.  It was there that I fell in love with Jack’s music and his laid back attitude about everything.  He has really helped me to appreciate
the little things in life and learn how to just slow down be thankful for what I have.

um, my sister got me In Between Dreams for my birthday 3 years ago… then i got the rest of his albums. although, I did, however, hear Bubble Toes way before that smile I still thank my sister today… his music has inspired me in my own music and in many other ways.

I must thank my brother for this.  He got Brushfire Fairytales from Work as a promo thing and bought it home and insisted on playing it over and over again.  I fell in love with the song Flake because it applied to my life at the time and from then on i was a fan.
THANKS DAN!

I was a late comer - Being a Dad, I got the George movie and was like “who is this guy singing the songs?!?!”

Then that week i saw him on Austin City limits… the rest is history

i was on itunes in may, 2005 just checking new artists and i came across the 2005 kokua festival songs/videos they had for sale. i think it was mud football and flake.  i remembered that my sister loved j.j. back in early 2000s so i bought it and then i was hooked and bought every j.j. song on itunes!

Started when Flake was all over the radio here in 2002, I burned a copy of Brushfire Fairy Tales off of someone at work.  This copy became a staple of my zipper cd folder which stayed in my car, and that was the only album I had of his that I played over and over again.  I started surfing in 2005, and when I would be in the parking lot after a session with the other surfers un-wetsuiting and constantly hear other jack albums coming from people’s cars, I realized it was time to get all of his albums.  Then I saw him live at UC San Diego & at the Greek Theatre in L.A. that year, and the rest was history.....coming to a peak at Kokua 2008 where I was hooked on Zach throughout the festival.  And later made the connection that I had seen ALO back in 2005 and also at a Dave concert awhile ago and loved them too.

Heard Wasting Time on the radio and loved it!  It was magical to me because it coincided with what I was experiencing/thinking at the time and I loved hearing the truth projected in such a beautiful way.  Then (in hind sight) I had a life and Jack lull...and a baby...was stuck (distracted) listening but not completely hearing the Curious George soundtrack for awhile and then as baby and I settled in together, I began to hear again and more magic happened and has been happening ever since.  There was a huge delay in coming to know In Between Dreams and then Brushfire Fairytales.  Now Jack (in thoughts/music) is intertwined with me and my family!

woops...don’t know what I did???

I saw him perform High Tide or Low Tide with Ben Harper on a NG TV Special for the 2006 Kokua Festival and it just took my breath away. From there on out, his style, mellowness, ideas on a cleaner earth, musical interests have all been a strong influence on my life. The way that he’s used his somewhat unwanted fame is extremely admirable and he’s definelty my favorite musician because of that.

It was back in 2005, around summer. I was in summer school still in high school. and I was getting sick and tired of the music I used to hear, and of the music played in the Radio(I Still am)
I had hear mention Jack Johnson before but I never got into him until i saw the end of “sitting, waiting, wishing” on VH1. I Love trees so i loved the differents picture frames that made up the Cd cover of In Between Dreams. Then I went online and started looking for him, that’s when I figure out who was the one in the video.then,an ex of my brother listened to Jack so I knew he had some music on his computer, i got some songs and started liking the guy. Now, is gotten bad-in the good way- i have all the cds. and he really inspires me....

I was in Toronto for surgery and was staying with my aunt afterwards, and she bought me all 3 of his first CDs as a get well present, all she said was “You’ll love this guy, I promise” - been hooked ever since. Now we’re going to see him for the first time together this summer!

It was in 2005,
I was chatting with a friend of mine,
and he told, hey, I´m gonna send you a song that it would drive you crazy,
and that´s when he sent me “Banana pancakes” it was a rainy day, and I couldn´t stop listening to it. From that day I listen to Jack Johnson every day in my life… haha, obssesion?

I heard his music played at swing club.  ( Yes, people do swing dance to it).  I liked it so much I started listening to it.

At first, I thought almost no one else had heard of him.  Lately, I am starting to believe I am wrong.

It was in 2005; when everyday i was waking up to go to school, i turned up the TV to see videoclips while i was changeing my clothes haha, and someday i saw this amazing and beautiful singer, and i listened to ‘sitting, waiting, wishing’.
I just couldn’t believe it, it was the perfect song, the perfect singer, the perfect video. So it took me a time to know more of his songs, but my sister knew jack too!, and we didn’t knew it!
Now we’re totally fans of him, and we can’t wait to see him in a concert or walking on the street [impossible, we live in argentina!]
Great question (:
Take care guys!
