Black Google Would Save 750 Megawatt-hours a Year Well thats a little bit of energy is it not. So everytime you load up your browser and your homepage has changed from Google to Blackle, you’ll be reminded that we all need to take small steps to reduce energy consumtion in our lives. http://www.blackle.com/about/

Mar 04, 2008 11:02am jens Total Posts: 7	Shame on Google! It should be black, because it saves energy and looks much cooler ;-) One day Google had also a black background. It was last year, as the lights went off in big cities for 5 minutes. So many people use Google and other uncountable websites that are too bright. Is there no way to change this webmasters mind? It would be a little step, but many little steps became a huge.

Mar 24, 2008 01:51pm c.dull Total Posts: 2	I am all about it. I use the guugil.com app (black google) for my Iphone as well, which has the same effect. I am sure that we could all be taking larger measures than this to conserve energy, but every little bit helps!

They also have some discussion on whether turning black actually saves energy. Anyway, there are some good tips in there for saving energy. Might renew your faith in Google :).

It could be that there’s some marketing tactic that’s involved, something about people being more attracted to the color white than the color black, but I would have never guessed that the color black saves energy on a monitor! That’s cool.
