WAM [We Are Many] Festival

Hey,

Just to start, I just want to say that I’m not promoting this festival. I just think that this is the place where people might want to read about it. Basically, this one’s for the site moderators. Leave this post in, no matter how well I put it.

In late August (22-24) this year, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, will be hosting a massive environmental music festival aimed at making a blueprint for low-impact music festivals to come. The festival, supported by numerous environmental organizations, will not only have a “pact” that all attendees will be encouraged to sign - that will push them into new routines that will promote more sustainable living - WAM will rally all local businesses and nurture and environment for them to build greater bonds in. The hope of the festival is that it can move from one city to the next, each year, bringing like-minded and environmentally-committed people together in each different place.

It is important for this movement to tour, and to bring people together. It will. The festival, in Saskatoon (a safe test environment), will draw 50,000 visitors this year. It will also encourage beer-drinkers in the area to support micro-breweries, in order to have less of a carbon footprint on each beer. It will give local farmers a chance to get greater recognition in their communities. It will bring the greatest minds of the area together, with the environment in mind, to mingle. But it will also endeavour to revive the old “green” adage - think globally, act locally - because, at the end of the day, if everyone cleaned up their own small space, the world would immediately be a better place.

The name of the festival, We Are Many, speaks of one of the greatest problems that the environmental movement faces today: the feeling that we - as individuals - are powerless. That is not so, as you know, since you’ve come to this site. If only 25,000 of the 50,000 attendees of the WAM Festival sign WAM’s pact, we will have still made a huge (and quantifiable!) and bulletproof change.

I have been environmentally and politically active now for the better part of a decade, after years of sitting on the fence, and I know more than most that NOW is an incredible time where change is possible. This site, with all of its affiliated organizations, and movements like WAM, are capable of influencing large-scale change. Check out WAM at http://www.wearemanyfestival.com, and think about what it could do for your community. This year will be a great success. Next year, if the movement continues to grow more tightly-knit, maybe Jack will want to play wherever WAM moves to next!

If you read all that...thanks for your time. If you have any questions or comments, you can contact me at .

Best.

Hey, no problem jlc…

I’ve been on the crusade now - actively - for nearly half a decade, so I do have some knolwedge to impart. The Festival just got another large donation from the Hunt Alternatives Fund, meaning: we have great momentum heading into it. Our aim, again, is to be able to move the festival itself from one town to another - across North America - grouping together everyone involved in this movement.

Now, if you don’t mind me asking - what role do you play here? Or, should I just consider you another passionate member of this community? Do tell!

Best.
