Is it just me?

Is it just me or does it bug now that EVERYONE knows who Jack Johnson is. It’s weird, but I liked it better when he wasn’t quite as mainstream. Not that anything has really changed… I guess it was bound to happen since his music has such an appeal.

Another thing I was thinking, is that he probably misses his anonymity since he seems like such a private person with his family and all.

I can see that happening where someone is a huge fan of an artist from the beginning(or very early in their career) and them becomming mainstream and a whole bunch of new fans jumping on board.... I have kinda felt like that not just about jack but about other bands too… kinda like “I knew of him first and all the new fans aren’t getting his message, they like him just because now it’s trendy” kinda thing… but you just gotta think that music is for everyone, and if an artist didn’t want it to be for everyone they wouldn’t make the music in the first place.

As far as Jack with his privacy and being in the public eye, I think that probably does bother him, I know it would bother me.  When anyone goes from being just another person to being an international star, that’s gotta be uncomfortable.

yeah i agree, iv been listening to his music since his first cd and now it feels like some people are just “jumping on the bandwagon” for whatever is “in” or “cool.” but this is great music and i can understand why people are starting to listen now.

Very perceptive Lacy… I agree.

I think his popularity stands for so much more...something bigger growing...and I will gladly stand beside everyone who claims to be the biggest Jack fan...because even the trend setters serve a vital purpose...they are like pollinators...and his growth excites me...because I see it as good thoughts; good seeds being widely spread...opportunity...and that is not a bad thing for the world at large...and like you said, nothing has changed with Jack’s “music”.  I think he consistently just does what he feels...his duty, in his way/talent to share; project what he receives...though I do think there has been/is a cost; sacrifice...it can’t be easy for him (as he’s sung and talked about) to tour at length...I can’t see how many would enjoy that part for too long...Bottom line, he’s something true; something different that is shining bright for all to see...so again, I think that the more people that see that the better we will all be...and I think the cost for him will subside as the community understands; unites.

Yes, It´s a bit annoying… here in Argentina, at the beggining we were like 2 fans, and suddenly there is like 416510120561 people that says that they like Jack when they only know 2 songs,
it´s kinda… I don´t know… ANNOYING.

We too were early Jack fans… Something that I hope the new fans realize is that Jack was an enviromental supporter WAY before “Being Green” recently became a fad!!!  Jack is not a fad.  He is a great role model.  I tend to agree, I really liked it when no one else I knew knew him (Jack who?) smile But his progression has a clearly stated and important cause.
