As you are directed to this page it says “An individual action, multiplied by millions, creates global change.” If you believe this, then even something infinitely small can make a difference.
Hi Guys, keep posting your “individual actions”. You never know what might inspire someone.

Read this post with a soft undertone.
Somehow this thread got off topic. I don’t want any comments about this post and I am not trying to tell others what to do. Please just post your individual good deeds to inspire others and try not to comment or give praise, that’s not what the topic was for. That way we can get a good list of deeds that may inspire others without having to sift through a bunch of other posts that are not inspirational.
A few things I do to help out locally:
Donate blood to the Red Cross as often as I am able.
Donate $$ out of my paycheck to the United Way.
Volunteer to coach little league teams , PTA, Football Boosters and fund raisers to help those less fortunate.
I don’t do these things for compensation or recognition, although it’s a two edged sword.
Inspiring allows others to take action based on what you’ve said\done.
Bragging just makes you feel superior based on what you’ve said\done.
I like to inspire.

A friend of mine inspired me to help out with Girls on The Run this spring. Groups of 12 or so girls (3rd to 5th) meet after school twice a week, and the curriculum focuses on being healthy, being kind and supportive of each other, and communication skills. It’s a really amazing program, and what is so inspiring is to hear these girls’ insights during the discussions. They train for a 5K, with the goal of completing it, it doesn’t matter how fast they are. It’s not a big commitment, but a great way to help these girls grow and talk about the issues girls face with self esteem, body image, etc. The little bit I helped made me want to do more, and my husband is in the middle of helping our local chapter organize a fall fundraiser. http://www.girlsontherunde.org is our local chapter, it should have a link to national, which I think is just http://www.girlsontherun.org.

My 2 favorite songs: Cookie Jar & Fall Line. Why? They show the sheer neglect we demonstrate everyday toward each other.
“We’ve all got blood on our hands.” - So how do we clean our hands, how do we reverse the cycle? I think we do this by standing up for those who cannot stand up for themselves. It starts by teaching our kids that it is not okay to just stay out of it. We all have the opportunity to get hurt by standing up, but it is better than the alternative.
“Somebody saw him jump, but nobody saw him slip"- How do we catch those who just quietly slip away? When we ask “How are you doing?” really listen to the answer. Don’t accept “good” as an answer. We really have to care. If you see a stranger that seems to be struggling, sincerely ask them if they are alright.
These things take a lot of energy, but is it too much? Well, you have to answer that for yourself, but I think you know the true answer.
We really can make a difference.

something that i am doing for myself, my family and friends, and pretty much the environment too is quitting smoking. I am starting today, going cold turkey. I will keep you guys updated on how it goes if you like.
I think this definately falls under the umbrella of a “challenge.” Not only will I be healthier, but the people around me will be too. Plus, a pack each day adds up to quite a bit of garbage, when you consider all the packaging and the filters that get thrown out.

Lacy, good for you!
I quit cold turkey(kind of) about 8 or so years ago after smoking for 13 years. My son was in the 3rd grade then. It was Red Ribbon week (anti-drug week) and at the end of one of the assemblies they had at the school he looked up at me and said “Dad, you don’t do drugs or smoke do you?”. I looked at him and said “No, Not anymore.”. I went to my car and tossed the pack of Marlboro lights I had in the car. It wasn’t easy, I had one here or there after that, especially when we went out drinking with friends (that was the hard part, social events), but it got easier as the fewer I smoked, the worse I started to feel when I did have one. Eventually, I started feeling gross and so nauseated the next day to where I didn’t want to have any at all. Now, I don’t smoke at all, and I even get grossed out when I walk out of a restaurant or store and people are smoking next to the door. It’s like walking into a wall of pollution. It stinks to me now. I don’t know why I ever started in the first place. Probably something stupid like trying to fit in…
Just think of it this way. What is more important. Feeding your addiction and shortening your life, or polluting the air and poisoning those you love around you? Essentially, that’s what it’s doing.
Good luck to you! Wish you the best!

^ wow you two, that’s one of the best things you could possibly do for yourself, most importantly, and your environment. Awesome!
I just wanna chip in a couple cents about my mindset behind doing anything for anyone; inspiring, green or whatever. I just feel that there is so much that really can be done. And only until recently have the majority of people REALLY started realizing that we all can make a difference, even if it is one step at a time. There are so many of us, to me it just seems crazy that people WOULDN’T all pitch in to make the biggest differences. It just gets boring looking out just for myself - I WANT to do more. I love being happy myself, but why not makes others the same way? I just think overall it becomes second nature, fun maybe in a way.
I guess that biggest thing I’ve done lately is volunteer at the local animal shelter. I go twice a week and although it may be 110 degrees outside I could really care less, I’ll care for the animals all day

This is great you guys. I have never smoked, so I cannot imagine how hard it is, but I have seen people I love go through it. If you need support we will be here!
I am so glad that people are getting together here. I wish we had a further reach. Have you guys been referring friends? I’m working on it.
Okay, my small inspiration today: at our local store, I bought 2 extra reusable bags and gave them to the 2 people in line behind me. Imagine if everybody who read this followed. That would be a lot less plastic.

that’s a good idea, and wouldn’t cost much either, those bags are only like $.85-$1 depending on where you shop…
ok, so the smoking thing didn’t go so well so far… lunch time mojitos on saturday kinda derailed my efforts and i bought a pack, but good news is that I am still working on that same pack so at least i have cut back. I will be attempting again when this pack runs out, hopefully with a little more success.
Thanks for the support guys!

Yesterday as I was driving home, a man in a pick up truck in front of me lost a bunch of tools, etc. from the back. As he was trying to pick them up from the road people were passing and honking. I decided to stop and help. He was very thankful.
It would have been a lot easier with my 4 kids to just pass by and feel sorry for him. I try to teach my kids that the right decision is usually the harder one to make, it is always easier to stand back and do what the rest of the crowd is doing. I know every decision I make affects them, hopefully they will stand up, and not be afraid.
Again, this was not life changing for me or the man involved, but it did show him that someone cared.

Come on, I know you guys are capable. Anyone.......
Okay, I know it is hard to stay motivated, but it wouldn’t be if everyone continued to post.
Did anyone see the 60 min. about plumpy-nut? It is this miracle food that is being given to malnourished children in developing countries. It is very cool, check it out.
Through the magic of the internet I found a place close to me that recycles a lot of the plastic that no one else will. Go to Earth 911 to find a place close to you.
I am begging you, keep me motivated.
Lacy- how is the no smoking thing going? I am sure it is hard. This might be useless advice, but maybe every time you go to buy a pack, instead give your money to someone working at a drive through window. It makes them really happy, or put it in a jar to give to a charity. I know this sounds easier than it is, but it is something.

it only lasted less than 48 hours… but i am going to try again starting tomorrow… it is a good idea to give the money to a charity or non-profit, i hadn’t thought about that. thank you!

Come on, Lacy, you can do it!! Most things worth doing aren’t easy. Don’t give up!
Nogali, thanks so much for your energy and inspiration!! I really agree with you about teaching our kids and how important that is. Your actions stopping to help someone will remain with your kids a long time.
I am reminded of the old movie, It’s a Wonderful Life. Jimmy Stewart gets to see how the world would be if he had never lived at all. Great inspiration, reminds you how even the little things can make a big difference, but that much of the time you don’t even know that you did anything.
Another movie I saw recently that inspired me—Lars and the Real Girl. It’s a very different movie, funny, but so touching to see how people in the town choose to be supportive. Don’t want to give it away, but I loved that movie!

Today while waiting in the garden checkout line at the local Target with my husband (and using our reusable bag of course), there was a young woman who walked up behind us with only 1 thing in her hand, so I asked her if she wanted to go ahead of us. She was very surprised, yet very thankful :)
I just wanted to throw out a few little things I do here and there everyday as well
-turn off/unplug appliances not in use
-use reusable bags EVERYWHERE (and I mean everywhere, haha)
-donate 2 bux every paycheck to United Way
-recycle, recycle, recycle!! And at times, reuse!
Lacy - keep it up!! I can only imagine. I’ve grown up, and continue to do so, in a house full of smokers my entire life. My dad’s dad smoked for 60 years, basically until he passed away around 75 yrs old. Unfortunately my dad is going in the same path. But I know you can do it if you REALLY want to and believe in it!!!!
