What’s being a volunteer like?

Have you ever been a volunteer on a Jack Johnson show? If so, what was it like? Share your experience with us!

I volunteered last night and it was AMAZING ~ he is one of the most wonderful, gracious, kind people I have ever met ! ! He and Zack played two songs for the volunteers in the pavilion at Alpine Valley.

WONDERFUL experience and I will be doing it in London again ~ Jack makes you want to volunteer ~ PAY IT FORWARD by volunteering for such an amazing person/organization!

Wow you got me all excited!!
I applied to volunteer and have received a response but no proper confirmation yet.. I applied for London as well (Hyde Park)! I can’t wait. I also have my ticket just in case since it’s going to be my first time to see Jack Johnson live. Do you think that being my first time and all it would be better if I volunteered or not?
Thanks!

HELLO EVERYONE… I VOLUNTEERED AT THE CLARKSTON MICHIGAN CONCERT.

IT WAS AWESOME. JACK AND HIS WIFE WERE VERY NICE.. THEY CAME OUT TO THE TENTS AND VOLUNTEERED THEMSELVES. THEY SNAPED SOME PHOTOS WITH US.

THEN THE WORK BEGAN.
JUST AS JACK SAID IN ONE OF HIS SONGS SLEEP THROUGH THE STATIC… PEOPLE REALLY DO.... AND IT REALLY JUST TAKES ONE TO MAKE THE DIFFERENCE....

INFORMING THE PUBLIC OF WHAT THIS IS ALL ABOUT WAS A CHALLENGING EXPERIENCE. BUT I WOULD DO IT AGIAN IN A HEART BEAT.

THE SHOW WAS AMAZING, WE WERE TREATED LIKE ONE OF THE CREW… IF YOU HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT VOLUNTEERING YOU SHOULD IT IS GREAT....

I JUST HAVE ONE THING TO SAY......

JACK YOU ROCK....

I was wondering about this. So no special place to view the show?  I get to volunteer in Atlanta and wondered about my ticket, to sell, give away or use...So guess I’ll use it. Thanks!

No you can give away you’re ticket, you’ll receive a ‘worker’s pass’, you can watch the show for free when you’re a volunteer - just not from a special seat.
I advise you to give your ticket away when you’re a volunteer.

I wouldn’t mind giving my ticket away, only thing is my ticket is a PIT ticket, I was lucky to get one that close to the stage.  I know I get in with volunteering, however if the volunteers watch from the lawn then using my ticket would get me up close… that is if I can get down to the pit area, before at Lakewood I never found my seats and have always went for lawn seats since, but this is my first JJ show… However if the ‘worker’s pass’ gets us a good view of the show then I would give it away.  I thought of emailing and asking but I felt like I might seem alittle ‘ungrateful’ and I am grateful I get to volunteer, I do want to learn how to help in my community, things I can do to get other people involved and find the resourses in my community.  I don’t know, I guess it wouldn’t hurt to take my chances with where I end up and give someone else a chance to see the show from the PIT :)

definitely keep your ticket then. I just volunteered the other day at the Comcast Center, Mansfield MA. And after walking around handing out stuff for 4-5 hours all I wanted was a seat. But come time for Jack’s set, they told us to just go find a place. The workers at the venue were rude and didn’t know where we were supposed to go, then finally they said, oh… you have to go to the lawn. (My friend who had a ticket, texted me telling me that there were 3 empty seats in her section but they still wouldn’t let me sit there) It probably depends on the venue, but the lawn sucked, and there were tons of people who had been there for hours and already staked out their spots. You can’t sit because everyone in the lawn is standing and you won’t be able to see a thing. KEEP YOUR TICKET and enjoy the show. Volunteering was ok, but even the shirts they gave us were ugly. Mint green? Come on! I’m a little bitter. I was really looking forward to the show and had a good attitude walking into this, but they gave us the brush off once we were done. Jack was cool and met with everyone before the doors opened, but it was rushed. You basically hand out a small pamphlet and try to get people to recycle, refill their water bottles and get their pamphlet stamped when they do these things. Some people are nice, some people are rude. I hope you have a better experience than I did, but for your own enjoyment, KEEP YOUR TICKET!

Salt Lake City

It was ok. I was sad cause after reading posts here about meeting Jack and him playing for the volunteers I thought we would at least get to have a group photo taken with Jack. Nope...Nothing… he was busy teaching a new bass player how to play his songs. We never saw Jack except on stage.

Additionally, we were told we had seats but after standing and walking for 5 hours...there were none. We did get to stand in the pit right up front so it was a great spot… but after walking on pavement all day my feet were tired.
