Dublin, Ohio Irish Festival: Greener than Ever

I am glad to see that the Dublin, Ohio Irish Festival this year is taking steps forward to reduce waste...every little bit helps...hopefully next year we will see a ban on Plastic water bottles and the use of water stations!!

Irish Festival going greener than ever
A goal of the 2008 Festival is to implement new environmentally friendly practices.
While we believe this will be an ongoing Festival goal, some of the initiatives we have
taken this year include:
• Increasing the number of recycle bins to have at least as many as trash bins;
• Requiring all vendors to recycle cardboard;
• Adding a bicycle valet at the Festival, which will be staffed mainly by local Scout
troupes. Special “Bike to the Festival” maps will be on Festival Web site;
• Decreasing overall printing by increasing use of electronic tools;
• Printing all Festival pieces on at least 30 percent recycled paper and using
environmentally friendly printers, inks and papers; and
• Reducing overall waste from beverages by selling re-usable beer mugs made from
environmentally friendly materials.

I love Irish Fests!  I am going to Milwaukee’s Irish Fest tomorrow to see a band called Scythian.  We will see how Green they are.

Increasing the recycle bins is the best idea.  Having a recycle bin next to every trash can is so important to get people to start recycling.  The next step is to educate people as to what is recyclable.  It’s so simple to many of us, but most people just don’t get it.

I didn’t notice that our Irish Fest here tried going too green… but the Summerfest Grounds(where Irish Fest is held) did get recycle bins this year.
