Fluorescent light bulbs- NZ making them compulsory?

Here in New Zealand the Government is talking about banning ‘normal’ lightbulbs and replacing them with fluorescent options. I think this is a great idea, as it comes at no loss to us. We have been provided with vouchers to get these fluorescent lightbulbs cheaper- so whats the problem? Many people are against them because they don’t give off as good a light- but the technology is improving and there are fluorescent lights out there that look and give off the same light as the other lights. They also say that they don’t work in dimmers- but there are some that do. They even say they don’t fit in chandeliers- but some do! So what, to all those people out there who don’t want to help the planet, is the problem? We have been provided with every option that we need these lights for, and since they last longer, it will save us money in the long run. Although they do contain traces of mercury, so did the old lights! And it is not nearly as dangerous if they break as people make it out to be. I think this is an easy and affordable way to make a difference in the world- because it does. So think how much of a difference it would make if a whole country was using them! To all those people out there that think they are above using ‘ugly’ lightbulbs: swallow you pride and help the world!

I was and still am amazed how much a difference in my electric bill since turning over to all flo-lights.

My wife and I are seeing a 20-25 dollars difference from last year

^Wow, that’s good savings!

I use all florescent lights except for a couple chandeliers.  And as stated, they are supposed to be recycled due to the mercury in them and I am very happy that The Home Depot now accepts them.

So take them to your local Home Depot for recycling!
