Mansfield Mass Concert

Hi all!

Is anyone else volunteering for the Mansfield Mass concert?
Both my boyfriend and I were choosen and are SO excited!
Can’t wait to work hard and meet new people!!
See you soon!

My wife and I were chosen as well. We have been huge JJ fans since the beginning. We are so excited to volunteer and help spread the word about the all at once cause.

see you there!

Hi! I got picked too! I can’t wait for Aug 6th to get here! It’s going to be a great experience! See you there!!!

I got picked too!  I’m so excited and it’s almost here!  YAY!

Ok, I volunteered the other night… how many of you were disappointed? I mean don’t you think they should have at least had a SEAT for us somewhere after being on our feet for 4-5 hours straight? The ushers and security people at the venue were clueless and rude! I really went into this with a positive attitude but when Jack’s set started, it was utter chaos trying to find a place to watch it from. I will not be volunteering at anything like this again unless they have an actual seat for me. And those shirts they gave us… mint green! Can we say FUGLY! I’m just truly disappointed with the disorganization of the whole thing. I love Jack and even went to this year’s Kokua Festival in April. (AMAZING) I’ve been a loyal fan for at least 8 years. But I truly did not enjoy myself the other night. He should have played at the Bank of America Pavilion where people could actually take Public Transportation to it. I hope that group photo actually makes it to us all. It’s all I’m looking forward to.

Hey all,

I also volunteered at the Mass concert. I personally thought it was a great experience. Yes it was HARD work and a long 5 hours talking with people, but it was totally worth it and would do it all over again. I am not sure if this group photo will ever get to us either, and I hope it does… and sure there was a bit of choas, but you will have that with any sort of project like this.

It was an amazing opportunity, and I am grateful that I was able to even meet Jack himself. THAT is by far more than a lot of people will ever get to say.

Enjoy the experience! Many people would have loved to of traded spots with you to have one brief moment of shaking Jack’s hand.

As for the t-shirts… I liked them, and everyone should be happy with what they received for free… again, more than any other volunteer project usually will provide.

I sure hope everyone else who worked hard that night is grateful for what they were able to experience that night.

Take Care-

I had a fantastic time volunteering at the Mansfield show.  I would go back and do the whole experience again if I could.  I still can’t believe I got to meet Jack!!  Handing out the passports and talking to all the concert go-ers was hard work but I had fun and enjoyed it.  I had bought lawn seats anyway so not having a seat didn’t bother me-I just sat on the grass and enjoyed listening to Jack.  The whole thing was just one great experience that I will never forget! :)

Ok, it’s great that you kids enjoyed the experience… god bless you. But I took off time from work to do this and if I had known that we wouldn’t have gotten seats, I would have scalped a ticket instead. Meeting Jack was cool… but he as well as any other celebrity are just people like you and me when it comes down to it. They put their pants/flip flops on one leg at a time. Don’t get too star struck.

Remember that schpeal the dude gave us about how “Jack wouldn’t even be doing this tour if it weren’t for us"… well if that was the case, shouldn’t we have been treated a little better? I feel like we got the brush off after our job was done.

I’m sorry but the free gear they gave us doesn’t replace the income I would have gotten if I had worked at my job that day. And unfortunately… I did not enjoy the experience. I tried to, but the only place I could actually see the concert from was miles away and some drunk girl kept bumping into me and hitting me in the face because she was flailing around like an idiot. At least she enjoyed herself.

Like I said, glad you guys enjoyed it, but from my point of view the organization could have done it all better.

My husband and I volunteered too and I have to say that we were very disappointed.  We have been Jack Johnson fans for so long and truly appreciate his music and what he stands for.  We were thrilled to me meet Jack and his wife Kim but felt like we got the shaft from the staff.  We were not done working until almost 9:00pm so we couldn’t even get onto the lawn it was so packed.  We also read before that Jack spent a lot more time talking to the volunteers and some even got a private little show.  We got one group photo and then other volunteers got private photos.  I felt like we were told to work hard (which is what I was there for) but then didn’t get the reward in the end.

It was very difficult to watch the crowd act life complete asses.  While we were volunteering I was almost thrown up on by a “fan”.  I had some fans tell me that they were too lazy to recycle.  It just makes me disappointed in our society.

I was there to volunteer but I felt very unappreciated and I don’t even have a picture with Jack to show for it :(

I am not ungrateful, I am always thankful for every experience I just left there feeling very sad.  I didn’t even get to appreciate jack’s music because I had to walk in circles because the staff at the Comcast center makes you move constantly if you don’t have a seat, did I mention that I didn’t have a seat :)

I think this experience is something that my wife and I will always have bittersweet memories of. On one hand it felt good to try to educate the fans to some of the environmental causes that are important to Jack. It was great to meet him, and his wife Kim was a pleasure to speak with. It was one of our favorite parts of the day! The sigg water bottle is something that I wanted anyway, so I (and especially my wife) was very happy about that.

I feel like there were a few things that they could change for future volunteers to make their experience better.

1) Don’t have the volunteers hand out the passports after it gets dark. By this point almost everyone coming into the venue was WASTED! I handed out about 500 passports before dark, and 10 after. The amount of passports that were laying in the trash prompted me to stop handing them out at all, and bring them back to the all at once booth.

2) Give the volunteers a seat! After standing on your feet talking and trying to convince drunken “fans” (and some nice as well) to get involved for over 5 hours - let them sit!

3) Let them have a bit more time meeting Jack. A brief handshake was nice, but it would be nice if he could have had the time to either play a song or two OR just tell us some story (he definitely has enough of them).

The most disappointing part of it was seeing drunken, yelling screaming fans walking over each other to get into a show where they probably knew the stuff from Curious George and Maybe a few off of Sleep thought the static that they heard in the parking lot. I’m sure if Jack could have seen the volunteering experience through my eyes, he would stop touring all together.

I would like to say that after all that, I am still psyched that I was picked, and my wife and I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything.

Hey all-

I do agree it was a tad frustrating with the fans at the concert. I had many fans tell me they would rather wipe their a$$ with the passport then read it, or they would throw it in the trash right in front of me. Lots were rude and mean, and that’s unfortunate, but that has nothing to do with Jack and his tour.  He didn’t ask to have fans like this (obviously), and yes standing all night was hard on the feet and body- but volunteering is never easy…. That’s why it’s volunteering.

Also, usually when you volunteer you aren’t given many “gifts”. It sure would have been nice to have a song or two, a story, or anything else but a handshake, but as I’m sure we all know. Life happens.  Maybe Jack couldn’t make it out for more time with us because something happened, or maybe he just didn’t feel like it. BUT, when we all signed up for volunteering it was NEVER promised we’d meet him; and we were NEVER promised we wouldn’t have to stand in the crowd.

It just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth that people were so disappointed by this. I’m not Miss. Happy go lucky, but.. wow….people would have traded spots with any of us to hand out flyers for 5 hours with just a SLIGHT possibility of meeting him. Star Struck I am not. He sure does put on his pants just the same way as all of us… but then why did you volunteer / stake off work if you weren’t star struck yourself?....

It was hard work, and we all deserved to sit down. No one told us we couldn’t. I am sorry some of you took work off to do this, but again…. Not jack or the tours fault.

Different people & different nights & different obstacles = different experiences.

Don’t take this so personally “happyinloveandinlife”. Some of us enjoyed the experience and others are disappointed. You said you’re “not Miss. Happy go lucky” but your screen name says different and so do your replies. Like I said before. God bless you if you had a good time. But as for myself and apparently some others, we feel shafted. Volunteering was misrepresented in this case and that is why we feel that we were taken for granted. Certain things should have been made clearer to us before volunteering (like not having a seat).  And yes, we were told that we couldn’t sit because there was nowhere to sit at that point. I never said it was Jack’s fault, it is the All At Once organization that had poor planning and the venue with rude and uninformed staff. I most certainly am not blaming Jack. He’s an awesome dude and fully admit that I was a bit in awe when he came to meet us. But I don’t think that too many people would switch places with what we put up with that night.

But you are right, different people, different experiences. If you found it rewarding, then good for you.

When I signed up for the volunteer opportunity, I didn’t even think I would be picked because I thought it was once in a lifetime opportunity to get a free ticket to the show.  I was aware from the beginning it was a lawn seat because I read the original e-mail inviting people to join up.

It saddens me to think that people volunteer for the soul purpose of getting material items and special treatment in return.  If you volunteered at a soup kitchen you’d get an apron and a ladle that you would have to return at the end.  Would you be disappointed in that experience because it was hard work and you didn’t get anything?  All that you would have to take home was the feeling that you did something good that you believed in.  That’s how I felt when I left.  Yes, it was a long day, but I met someone that I believed in, who in turn made me believe in something larger than myself.  I think that was what the point of volunteering was.  The rest was just shear luck.

Remember how Jack was being filmed by the Discovery Channel the day we volunteered?  I found an article about him.....

I think it was on the 8/13 episode.....hopefully it’s on on-demand so I can check it out!

Enjoy!

Wow guys.
Maybe those of you who had a bad time should kick back on signing up to volunteer places. Just a thought. And I would be stoked to meet Jack Johnson; not cause he is a star but because he has got an awesome talent of combining real words, real good music, with some real meaning behind it. And as far as the wild fans in the crowd......... What concert does not have them.
Just think of the meaning of all at once, maybe then you will be more greatful of the opportunity to do your part.
or not
its cool
