Rise Above Plastics

I’m from Surfrider and I am looking forward to seeing all of you at the US shows! Here in San Diego I started a blog http://riseaboveplastics.blogspot.com/
and started getting people motivated and interested to changing how they look at plastics in our community and our environment. I just want to say that it’s so true that one voice, multiplied by millions, can create global change, which is what this is all about. Already I have seen our small group expand as people spread the word to their friends, and their friends tell their friends and BAM! we have a movement! I get stories every day of people starting recyling programs, doing outreach events at their schools, talking to their local governments, all because of Rise Above Plastics. Do you have a story?

Love the campaign! The environmental club at Providence College in Providence, RI will be getting an email about this! They’d love to hear and get involved. :)

Go Surfrider!
We’ve been hearing about RAP over at the Algalita Marine Research Foundation, and share your interest in tackling the marine plastics issue.

We are currently sailing a boat made from 15,000 plastic bottles, named “JUNK”, from Long Beach to Hawaii. You can follow our progress here: http://junkraft.com/

We’re all Surfrider fans - great to see your taking this on. Lets support each other.

Great work!  I have seen the damage plastics and other trash causes in America.  as a whitewater kayaker in the midwest where most people don’t think of where there trash ends up.  Alot of the whitewater rivers are in out of the way locations and still have countless amounts of plastic and trash in the eddy’s.  It is even worse in the quiet water rivers.

Yes, we don’t need plasic bags cloth bags are the way too be. My whole town doesn’t use plasic bags! You’re not able to get them at our local store(where I work):D Have to bring your own bags or buy one of our cloth bags!

It took me a couple months to break my plastic bag habit.  I carried my reusable bags in my car and would even forget to bring them in only to remember them when they asked “paper or plastic?”
But I finally got it down.  :)
I would bet there are other people trying to break the habit out there, that just need to keep at it.  They probably have bags in their car, just like I did, but have too many things on their mind to remember them when they get out of the car.
The more we all do it, the more it will catch on.
What I find amazing is how much food a bagger/checker will put in a reusable bag versus how little they will put in a plastic bag.

Great Idea, I’ve also started my personal blog Residential Solar Power to help people be more energy efficient and use solar energy to power and heat their homes.

Thanks
