An individual action, multiplied by millions, creates global change.

GREEN FAN ACTIONS ON TOUR

We’re collaborating with non-profits around the world to develop All At Once online and at the concert, helping to inspire music fans to create positive change. Your actions, your voice and your choices all have a huge impact. Join us in creating positive change with the following actions:

Before the Show:
Consider an alternative transportation option to reduce harmful CO2 emissions:
  • Carpool with friends to the show! Visit the message board to set up a carpool – receive a stamp at the Village Green for this action (3 needed to for entry to best seat in the house).
  • Come by mass transit or bicycle.
Participate in an environmental action event before the show:
  • Select the CO2 offset purchase option when you purchase your ticket through Ticketmaster, Live Nation, or Musictoday.

At the Show:
Take 3 actions at the show and enter for a chance to watch the show from the side of the stage!
  • Connect with non-profits in the Village Green
  • Donate to a non-profit – donations to the local non-profits at the show and online will be matched by Jack! (Up to $2,500 US dollars or foreign equivalent per show)
  • Take environmental action by recycling at one of the recycling stations or refilling your reusable water bottle (bring one or get one at the show) at one of the water stations
  • Buy an exclusive Jack Johnson CO2 offset sticker, with proceeds benefiting renewable energy projects.

After the Show:
Come back and visit the website to stay connected with Jack Johnson’s global social action community and for more information on the non-profits and volunteer events in your area (and internationally).

In addition to launching All At Once, Jack Johnson and his crew are taking action to minimize the environmental impact of their world tour.

GREEN BAND ACTIONS ON TOUR

In 2008, Jack Johnson and his crew are taking action to minimize the environmental impact of their world tour. Greening actions include:
  • Providing on-site water stations, waste management, and recycling services.
  • Reducing waste with the use of biodegradable food service items and reusable water bottles that can be refilled on-site.
  • Fueling tour vehicles and/or generators with sustainable biodiesel (where available) to help reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by up to 78%.
  • Offering eco-friendly tour merchandise, including organic cotton clothing, reusable water bottles, and tote bags.
  • Minimizing distribution of paper at shows and using 100% recycled paper and soy-based inks for all printed materials.
  • Using sustainable and recycled materials whenever possible for Village Green tents and banners.
  • Selecting environmentally-conscious travel and hotel options.
  • Offsetting all remaining CO2 emissions from the tour and for each night’s show.
Encouraging YOU to join us in action at each show by using mass transit or carpooling to the venue, visiting the Village Green, utilizing the recycling and water stations, offsetting your carbon footprint, and joining the All At Once community.

2008 ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT GOALS

Impact will be tracked throughout Johnson’s 2008 world tour to demonstrate how collective action can result in significant change. An end-of-tour report will be available at All At Once and www.jackjohnsonmusic.com. Measurable actions include:
  • # of voters registered (United States)
  • # of companies encouraged to take stronger climate change measures
  • # of people who participated in local events & projects leading up to the concert
  • Money raised for local non-profits
  • Tons of CO2 reduced as a result of All At Once and tour efforts
  • # plastic bags and water bottles replaced by reusables
  • Pounds of waste recycled/composted at the venues

JACK JOHNSON WORLD TOUR OFFSET STRATEGY

Every effort has been taken to reduce the environmental impact of Jack Johnson's 2008 World Tour-including powering buses, coaches and generators with bio diesel. Bio fuels burn cleaner than petroleum and generate dramatically less CO2 emissions. Because CO2 emissions are a direct cause of climate change, the tour is offsetting all of its remaining emissions and is striving to be 100% carbon neutral.

About climate change:
The main cause of climate change (65%) is burning fossil fuels (i.e. driving cars and burning coal to make electricity). The remaining (35%) is the result of other human activities-the largest being cutting and burning of tropical forests.

About the Jack Johnson offset strategy:
This tour will offset its impact on climate change by contributing 65% of offset dollars toward addressing fossil fuel consumption by building new renewable energy sources like wind and solar and 35% to programs that avoid deforestation by protecting large tracts of old-growth jungles and forests. Every effort is being made to work with offset partners who can quantify positive impact on local communities the tour will visit. When this is the not possible, this strategy seeks to directly impact the region.

U.S and International avoided deforestation offset partner:

Amazon Conservation Association
Unlike groups that plant seedlings, this non-profit organization protects larges tracts of threatened, hyper-diverse rainforest in South America and uses state-of-the-art science to design its conservation programs.

U.S and International renewable energy offset partners:

Ark Climate, Australia/New Zealand
Offsets are used to fund the generation of wind, solar, waste, or certain forms of hydro or tidal power.

gConscious, Japan
The first Japanese carbon offsetter, this company offers VER (verified emission reduction) to fund wind farms built in Akita or Hokkaido. gconscious.jp/vision.html

Evolution Sage, Hawaii
Hawaii's only group countering climate change through the sale of locally-generated carbon offsets and emission inventory services.

EmissionStatement, UK
With its mission to make tackling climate change simple, this organization offers high quality Gold Standard carbon credits and promotes carbon reduction education in the UK.

Co2balance, France/Spain/Germany/Portugal
Offset funds from the tour are used to plant trees in local communities and purchase solar ovens and energy efficient stoves powered by renewable energy for East African communities.

Climate Neutral Group, The Netherlands
Based in The Netherlands, projects include solar power in Nicaragua; wind energy in India, New Zealand and Taiwan and small-scale hydro in China.

Native Energy, North America
This reputable company uses carbon offset proceeds to fund vital new wind energy projects on Native American lands.

THE ALBUM - Sleep Through the Static

Recorded using 100% solar energy, printed on 100% post-consumer waste recycled paper, and carrying the 1% For The Planet logo, Jack Johnson’s new album, Sleep Through the Static, released by Brushfire Records is paving the way for responsible CD production and packaging.

BRUSHFIRE RECORDS LABEL GREENING

Jack Johnson’s record label, Brushfire Records, is blazing a trail in environmental responsibility among record labels. Brushfire is headquartered in a newly-renovated green building, leveraging a number of innovative features to keep their environmental impact low. These features include:
  • Solar panels providing all power for offices and studio
  • Interior/exterior wall insulation made from 100% post consumer waste (cotton from blue jean scraps)
  • Duro-Last green roof
  • Recycled shingles
In addition, the label pays close attention to its internal operations, monitoring energy use and increasing efficiency through lighting and fixtures, reducing office waste and ensuring company-wide recycling, sourcing sustainable goods for office supplies and other operational needs, and offsetting all company CO2 emissions.

Brushfire has also worked to get its clients and colleagues on board. The label is a member of 1% for the Planet and encourages its artists to do the same. In addition, Brushfire convinced Universal (their manufacturer/distributor) to use FSC-certified recycled paper for all their Brushfire music and movie releases, developed the first 100% recycled plastic tray, and piloted a new form of environmental packaging called Eco-Pac. Brushfire is currently challenging Universal to develop a biodegradable corn-based shrink wrap and soy-based inks, and are developing a recycled plastic slimline or paper replacement for all radio singles.
