The Friends’ mission is to protect, preserve and restore the wilderness character of the BWCAW and the Quetico-Superior Ecosystem. The organization formed in 1976 to protect this vulnerable area and two years later shepherded legislation through Congress that brought full protection to the Boundary Waters.

As part of the tour, Surfrider is launching their "Rise Above Plastics" campaign to educate the public about the dangers plastics pose to our environment, and what each of us can do to help reduce these impacts.

The Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance (SBA) is a non-profit organization created to promote sustainable biodiesel practices, including the harvesting, production and distribution of biodiesel fuels. The SBA is working on best practices for sustainability in biodiesel. The ultimate goal is to create a system of certification for sustainability in feedstock, production and distribution for biodiesel in the United States.

The Youth Farm & Market Project is about youth gardening, cooking, nutrition, and entrepreneurship. It’s about youth connecting to their food and the environment – YFMP youth currently farm 9 garden sites – over 2 acres of urban land in Minneapolis and St. Paul. It’s about community involvement – engaging volunteers in over 1,755 hours of service to their community. YFMP works with over 300 youth ages 9-13, and employs 25 teens as both interns during the school year and youth staff during the summer program.
